In the woodworking shop, you can work with many types of wood. From small to large projects - here you explore what you can create. Draw, make a plan and get started, we look forward to seeing the result
We sew chalk bags from old climbing ropes. You learn about sewing machines, about recycling, and you create high-quality products that look incredibly cool!
We road trip around the county and seek out the best bouldering spots, both outdoors and indoors. In Sogndal we also have a modern bouldering room, which is used a lot!
Here you get the opportunity to make your own skis. We have our own woodworking shop and a teacher who is a "Ski maker". You get good training and are left with your own skis! Sew your own clothes! You learn both to sew according to patterns and to redesign clothes. We have great sewing machines, and a sewing room that is available, you can sew everything from a jacket to a ball gown.
In Sogndal we have great terrain trails that many people come from afar to test. The trails are both challenging and demanding, but if you have never tried it before, there are adapted trails for all levels.
Learn to knit beautiful Selbu mittens! If you have never knitted before, we can guarantee that you can do it! If you are experienced, you can play with patterns and create your own, or maybe knit Christmas gifts.
With Powder Ready you will simply be ready for the powder season on skis! We focus on getting in good physical shape, with a lot of stair running and dryland training.
Become good at making coffee! We have our own coffee machine and grinder, and we teach you the process from grinding beans to enjoying your own cappuccino. We visit Sognefjord Kaffebrenneri, which is within walking distance from the school, where we get to learn more about roasting coffee beans.
We brew our own beer, and use, among other things, malt that we make ourselves. You get to participate in brewing several different types of beer and get to know a little about our history and tradition related to beer.
Going on a ski touring trip and looking out over snow-covered mountains and valleys is simply beautiful. If you haven't done it before, you'll have an experience of a lifetime. Sogndal is an eldorado for ski touring!
The goal of this elective is to have fun in the snow, improve your skiing and jumping skills, build snow shelters, and learn while playing. Snow can be used for so much!
Knowing how to act correctly in a stressful situation is not a given. First aid gives you a better foundation for helping sick or injured people in serious situations. The subject is divided into practical and theoretical sessions.
Playing the guitar is something most people should experience during a year at folk high school. You can start this elective without any prior knowledge and end up with enough guitar skills to be the center of attention in the evening. You will learn, among other things, how to play using chord notation, chords, fingerstyle, and how to take care of the instrument. It is an advantage to have your own guitar.
The goal of this subject is to develop technical and tactical skills, as well as knowledge of technical training and different forms of play. We work with different types of serves, smashes, sets, and blocks, as well as all the basic strokes.
Climbing course for beginners. We use the indoor wall "The Wall" in Sognahallen, the bouldering wall, and/or the climbing area a 10-minute bike ride from the school. You will learn how to belay others, basic climbing techniques, and general safety. You will receive a 'Brattkort' (climbing license) in this elective.
Design and create your own personalized, high-quality board for asphalt surfing! Longboards are not only fun to make, but also a brilliant means of transportation – environmentally friendly and fun!
We paddle on the world's longest fjord – the Sognefjord. Here, you will learn basic kayaking techniques and rescue training, all in spectacular surroundings along our fjord.
Here, we pack our bags and head out to the coast. Depending on where we go, we can at least offer fishing, a good atmosphere, maybe a crab, or just enjoy the sunset together.
Avoid living on junk food during your studies and spend your money on other fun things! We make simple and tasty dishes that are healthy for both body and mind. Many good meals can be made both affordably and quickly!
Learn to collaborate and start a band! We have band instruments and equipment: everything from double bass, electric bass and guitar, drum sets and good sound equipment. The band can get gigs both at and outside the school.
Here you can paint on canvas with acrylic paint. We create large pictures, and you learn painting techniques, color theory, and you get great pictures to hang on the wall!
Introduction to alpine skiing, telemark skiing or mountain skiing with turning technique and powder skiing. We divide into groups, and you get instruction, challenges and feedback on what is good and what can be improved. No prior skills are required. You need ski equipment, suitable clothing and a helmet – which is mandatory. The teaching takes place in Sogndal Ski Center.
Make your own knife – with a sheath! Choose from various types of wood for the handle and design it to fit perfectly in your hand. You can put your own personal touch on the sheath.
The yearbook team writes, designs and compiles the yearbook for the folk high school. You will learn simple image editing, article writing and proofreading, all with the good help of large amounts of coffee!
Yoga combines flexibility, strength and balance. You will be taught in various yoga styles, such as Vinyasa, Hatha and Yin yoga. In all yoga, breathing is important to calm the body and mind, so we also work with various breathing techniques. Towards the end, we slow down the pace and end with relaxation and meditation. You don't need to have tried yoga before.
Ball games: Traditional ball games such as floorball, football, basketball and volleyball. We focus mostly on games, but there will also be some tactics and technique.
