CLIMATE AND ENVIRONMENT

Sogndal Folk High School works every day to be an environmentally conscious school. Our students spend a lot of time in nature - and in order to enjoy it, we must take care of it.

We care about the future: Here you will learn to take responsibility for both yourself and your surroundings. We want you to leave the school with hope for a better future, and the courage to create positive changes.

Sustainability - more than just a word

It is part of everyday life. The school works every day to be an environmentally conscious school that inspires students to make good choices for the future. We were the very first folk high school to receive the Sustainability Award in 2021, and we continue to challenge ourselves and our students to make a difference.

Our values are based on the idea of a sustainable community. We invite you to take part in this – whether you want to contribute a little or a lot. Together, we can take small steps that make a big difference, both locally and globally.

With us, sustainability is about more than just big words – it's about everyday choices that matter. From source separation and recycling to reducing water consumption and repairing things instead of buying new ones, we work together to create good habits that last a lifetime. We have recently installed a solar panel system that produces our own electricity, and we are proud to be a school that takes responsibility.

Nature as a learning arena

Sogndal Folk High School is located in the middle of spectacular nature with fjords, mountains and glaciers right outside the door. Here we use nature as a learning arena – from core subjects to leisure. In order to enjoy nature, we must take care of it, and we do this through activities and sustainable choices in everyday life.

Here you can learn to repair your bike, design your own shopping bag, and produce beeswax wraps for lunch boxes. You can participate in exchange events where you can give away what you don't need and find something new that others no longer use.

Most of the study trips at Sogndal Folk High School are adapted to the green shift. Several of the trips take place by train and bus instead of plane, so that the journey itself becomes part of the experience.

Food is an important part of everyday life at Sogndal Folkehøgskule. We serve homemade food made from scratch with fresh ingredients. Local food is a given – we pick apples, berries and herbs in the local area and use this in the food we prepare.
