Folk high school start autumn 2020 - Corona measures.

Many people are excited about the start of school in the fall. This year there is extra excitement related to the Corona pandemic and possible consequences for the start in August and the rest of the school year.

We at Sogndal Folk High School have made some adjustments to the situation, but we plan for the school year to be quite similar to previous years. We plan to start the school year as normal. This is based on signals from the authorities and the fact that other types of schools are about to reopen.

The gradual reopening of society means that if this continues, it will be ready for school to start in August. There will still be some changes. In the initial phase, we will plan for students to stay together for a ten-day period and not mix with the local population until we know that the students are symptom-free.

This is to protect both the students and the local community. There has been minimal corona infection in Sogndal. There have been only a few cases here that have been detected early and the spread has been prevented. There have been no new cases since the end of March.

The lines that have international trips in the fall will instead travel in the spring, and we will not travel until we receive the green light from the authorities that it is defensible. There are several factors at play here, including the corona situation in the countries we plan to travel to. We will adapt to this and plan the trips in relation to this.

We will focus on infection control and hygiene in the coming time. Both on campus, when employees and students travel to and from school, and when we are in the outside world. Students will receive a review of infection control and hygiene at the start. Cleaning has been adapted to the situation with increased focus on disinfecting surfaces that are touched frequently.

We have set aside separate rooms for students who show symptoms of infection or who may become ill. We have a short distance to the nearest doctor's office. We are following the advice from the Norwegian Institute of Public Health and establishing a collaboration with the municipal chief physician in preparations for the school year. The Norwegian Institute of Public Health regularly provides updates on recommended infection control measures, and creates specific infection control guidelines for various institutions.

There has not yet been a separate guide for folk high schools, but we are following the guides that have been prepared for other types of schools in the work of preparations until this one arrives. We are following the developments and advice that comes from the authorities.

The start of school is still a long way off and there are several things that can change. We will adapt so that our students feel safe at school. We are looking forward to the start of school and to having students at school!
